Kink prevention is the main job, but there's a bit more going on. When hydraulic hose gets routed through tight bends or sits in a position where it wants to collapse, the coil keeps the inner bore open so flow doesn't get choked off. Without it, a crushed hose can restrict pressure, cause heat buildup, and wear out faster than it should. The stainless steel construction on this one also holds up better than plain steel in environments where moisture or mild chemical exposure is a concern.
