this fitting got a female JIC on one end and male JIC on the other, is that right, or am I reading the size wrong?

Female JIC 37 degree flare on the larger end, 7/16-20 male JIC 37 degree flare on the smaller end. Both ends use the same flare angle, so it's a straight reducer keeping you in the JIC system while stepping down the connection size. Stainless steel construction from SSP Fittings Corp.

trying to hook a 1/4 inch tube line into a 7/16-20 JIC port. is this the right reducer for that?

For that kind of step-down, this adapter is set up as a straight reducer with a female JIC 37 degree flare on one side and a 7/16-20 male JIC 37 degree flare on the other. The tube OD called out for it is 0.25 inch.
