trying to hook a G 3/8 line into a 1/4 NPT port. is this the straight adapter for that?

For that mix of threads, it matches up: side 1 is a male BSPP (G) 3/8 with a G 3/8 - 19 callout, and side 2 is a male 1/4 - 18 NPTF. It is a straight Adaptall fitting.

fitting's got a 3/8 BSPP side and I need to tie into a 1/4 NPT port on a pump housing. this the right one for that?

That match lines up exactly with what this fitting does. The BSPP side is a G 3/8-19 male connection and the NPT side is a 1/4-18 NPTF male, so you'd be going from the larger 3/8 BSPP thread into the smaller 1/4 NPT port. Just make sure your pump housing is female NPT and your upstream fitting or valve is female BSPP, since both ends here are male.
