both sides on this fitting are M16 x 1.5 DIN tube connections -- just one's male and one's female, right? trying to make sure i got the right part before i pull the trigger on ordering

Correct on both counts. Side one is a male M16 x 1.5 DIN tube connection at L10 size, and side two is a female M16 x 1.5 DIN tube connection, also L10. So yes, same thread callout on each end, just opposite genders. That swivel configuration lets you make a 90-degree direction change while keeping the DIN tube interface on both sides of the joint.
