got a metric DIN tube end on one side and NPT on the other. is this the adapter that goes M36 x 2.0 to 1 inch male nptf

For a straight transition like that, it matches up as M36 x 2.0 DIN tube on one end (L28 size) and 1 inch male NPTF on the other (1 to 11.5 NPTF).

What size wrench do I need to tighten this fitting down good and snug?

The wrench flats on this adapter measure 41mm across, so you'll need a wrench of that size to get it properly tightened.

fitting's 47mm long overall, will that clear up enough room to get a wrench on it during install, or is it gonna be tight quarters?

At 41mm across the flats, there's a solid wrench purchase on this one. The 47mm overall length keeps things compact, but that hex width gives you enough to torque it down properly without fighting for grip. If your setup is already pretty cramped, just make sure you've got a open-end or adjustable wrench that can get in at a low angle, since a socket may not clear depending on what's around it.
