Running a 1-inch line on a petroleum-based hydraulic system, figured this might be the right hose but wanted to make sure before I order a whole reel. Refined petroleum fluids only, or is there more flexibility than that?

Refined petroleum-based fluids are the stated application for this hose, so you're in the right ballpark for that kind of system. The cover is synthetic rubber with standard abrasion resistance, and the construction is a 2-ply wire braid rated up to 3000 PSI at 1.00-inch ID. For petroleum-based hydraulic fluid lines, it's a solid fit. Just make sure your working pressure stays within that 3000 PSI ceiling and you're good to go.

If I'm pumpin' some pretty heavy stuff through this, will the outside hold up okay? I'm not tryin' to replace this thing every few months.

This hose is made with a synthetic rubber cover that offers standard abrasion resistance, so it should hold up reasonably well under normal wear and tear.
