Return line filters sit at the end of the circuit, catching contaminants before the fluid cycles back into the reservoir. That position makes them real workhorses for keeping the whole system clean over time. Other filter types like pressure or suction filters handle fluid at different points in the loop, but the return line is where you tend to pick up the most wear particles generated during normal operation. Keeping that fluid clean before it hits the tank goes a long way toward protecting pumps, valves, and cylinders downstream.
