running a double-acting cylinder, will this cushion valve keep it from slamming when the load shifts on me?

Built for shock and external load protection, the RC Series cushion valve uses a double relief setup to cushion equal displacement cylinders or motors. When one side relieves, the oil is routed directly to the opposite side or circuit, which helps prevent cavitation and smooths out those sudden load changes.

Will this double relief valve work alright for a cylinder that needs equal displacement in both directions?

That's precisely what it's designed for. The fluid that goes through one relief valve flows right over to the opposite side, which keeps the cylinder from cavitating when it discharges.
