Aluminum construction is what keeps the weight down on the RA Series. It is called out as about half the weight of an equal capacity steel cylinder, while still rated for 100 tons of lifting capacity.

Hard coating on both the piston rod and the cylinder bore is what makes the durability possible at that capacity. The aluminum body itself weighs roughly half what a comparable steel cylinder would, but the hard coat treatment gives the wear surfaces real resistance to both abrasion and corrosion. For jacking and non-production use, which is what this cylinder is built around, that combination holds up well under repeated load cycles without the bore degrading the way an uncoated aluminum bore would.
