i’ve got a hose that measures right at 2-3/4 on the outside. is this JS310 clamp the right size for that?

does this clamp work without any hammering or crimping to lock it down?

Locking it in place takes just one lever movement. No hammering, no crimping tools required. The JS type design handles that automatically, which makes installation a lot faster when you're working through a stack of hose assemblies.

got a 2-3/4 inch hose, is this clamp actually formed to that size or do you fight it to get it round

Preformed means it already has a uniform, gap-free 2.75 inch inside diameter, so it stays round and gives you a smooth clamping surface. That smooth ID is meant to cut down on leak paths and also helps keep the outside lower profile so it is less likely to snag when you are dragging hose assemblies around.
