what exactly makes a camlock fitting "secure", is it just the locking mechanism or is there more to it?

Kuriyama builds these with a cam-and-groove design where the arms lock around the groove on the adapter, holding the connection in place under pressure without needing tools to engage or release. The security comes from the physical grip of those cams seating fully, so as long as the arms are pressed down all the way until they click, the joint stays put during operation.
