does this jack work for slab-on-grade jobs or is it more of a highrise type tool

Both, actually. Power Team built this one to handle slab-on-grade conditions where you're dealing with dirt, heat, and heavy daily use, but it's also well suited for highrise and elevated work. The fast return time and lighter weight make it practical when you're moving it around on upper floors. It covers both ends of the job pretty well.
