got some 5/16 plastic tube, is this the right insert for it or am i mixing parts up

For plastic tubing, the 2030 insert is the piece used with these brass compression fittings, and this one is sized for 0.31 inch tube OD (0.3125). One exception is Eaton PT230 plastic tubing, which does not require the 2030 insert.
