does this tube support work with regular plastic tubing or do you need some kind of special insert to make it fit right?

For most plastic tubing, you'll need to use the 2030 insert along with this support. The one exception is Eaton PT230 tubing, which doesn't require it. Without the insert on standard plastic tubing, you won't get a proper fit, so it's worth making sure you have that piece before assembly.

got some 5/8 plastic tubing im trying to hook up with a brass compression fitting. is this the right tube support for that

For 0.63 inch tube OD plastic tubing, this tube support is the matching size. It’s meant to support plastic tubing when you’re using a brass compression tube fitting, and it’s also compatible with aluminum and copper tubing.
