these cap on a 1/8 NPT fitting, will it just pull off when I'm ready to use it or is there more to it than that?

Tear caps like this one are meant to come off easy when the time comes. You just grab it and pull, no tools needed. They're called tear caps for that reason. Until then, they sit snug on the pipe thread and keep debris, dust, and moisture out during storage or transit.

It's designed to fit a 1/8 NPT (National Pipe Thread) size. That's what it's made for.
