Can this pump handle full pressure right from the start?

got a single-acting ram i use for maintenance work. will this PE172 run it and what’s the deal with pump on, off to hold, and return?

For single-acting cylinders, the PE172 is set up to pump to extend the cylinder, then you switch it off to hold pressure. To retract, you turn the motor off and manually shift the valve to return.

runs off a regular 115 volt outlet or does it need something special wired up?

Standard 115VAC is all it takes. The motor draws 10 amps at full pressure, so a typical household or shop circuit handles it fine. It'll also run off a small generator, which comes in handy out on a job site where you're not always near a panel.
