got a setup where the pump sees some side load on the shaft. is this 3100 series one of them roller bearing pumps or just bushings
Question by: Hank H on Sep 21, 2025, 9:02 AM
Roller bearing construction is one of the main differences on this 3100 Series pump. That setup is meant to handle shaft side loads more consistently than a bushing style gear pump, which helps in applications where side load is part of the design.

Been running bushing-type gear pumps for years and had nothing but grief with shaft side loads wearing them out early. This roller bearing setup on the 3100 Series supposed to hold up better for that kind of thing?
Question by: Brenda L on Jul 9, 2025, 1:47 PM
Roller bearing construction handles shaft side loads considerably better than bushing-type pumps, so yeah, that wear pattern you're dealing with should be a lot less of a problem here. Bushing pumps can struggle when there's consistent lateral force on the shaft, and the 3100 Series was built with that exact limitation in mind. For applications where side loading is part of the operating reality, the roller bearing configuration is the more durable choice long term.

What kind of hydraulic applications does this Permco pump work best in?

This Permco 3100 series gear pump is designed for small displacement hydraulic applications where you need reliable fluid transfer. It's built to hold up under demanding use, thanks to the roller bearing construction.
