pump says it works with double acting cylinders, does that mean it won't run a single acting setup at all, or is there some wiggle room there?

For single acting cylinders, this pump isn't the right fit. It's built specifically around double acting cylinder operation, so pairing it with a single acting setup would leave you working against how the valve circuit is designed. If your cylinder needs pressure in both directions, though, this pump handles that fine and gives you two speed ranges to work with, 325 PSI on the low end and up to 10,000 PSI when you switch to high pressure mode.
