got a hose end that’s 1/2-20 UNF JIC, and my port is G 3/8-19 BSPP. is this the straight adapter that ties those two together?

For connecting those two thread styles, this fitting matches a male JIC 37 degree flare on one side in 5/16 inch size with a 1/2 - 20 UNF thread, and a male BSPP on the other side in 3/8 inch size with a G 3/8 - 19 thread. It is a straight steel Adaptall adapter.

got a piece of equipment with a G 3/8-19 port on it and need to tie into a JIC line, this fitting do the trick?

That lines up exactly with what this fitting is built for. One end is a male BSPP at G 3/8-19, and the other is a male JIC with a 1/2-20 UNF thread and a 37-degree flare. It comes with a washer and O-ring for the BSPP side, which handles the sealing on that parallel thread connection.
