does this cap need any kind of thread sealant to hold a good seal, or is it good to go as-is?

No sealant is required. The cap is built to close off pipe ends securely on its own, so you can thread it on and trust the seal without adding tape or compound to the joint.

got a 1 inch male pipe thread sticking out, is this cap gonna screw on like it ought to?
