Is there a specific fluid cleanliness level this valve needs to operate properly?

Maintaining the right fluid cleanliness is important; for pressures up to 3000 PSI, aim for an ISO 4406 Cleanliness Level of 18/16/13. If you're running pressures above 3000 PSI, bump that up to Level 17/15/12.

Running a press application where we need proportional flow control but servo valves are overkill for what we're doing. This valve fill that gap or is it still gonna be more than we need?

Right in that middle ground is exactly where this valve lives. It uses an LVDT feedback signal that keeps the spool position accurate without pushing you into full servo valve territory. You get proportional control of velocity, direction, and acceleration based on current input to the solenoid, which makes it well suited for press work where repeatability matters but you don't need servo-level precision. The closed center spool holds position when no signal is applied, and the spring centering brings it back to neutral on power loss. For press applications, that setup tends to be a solid fit.
