Does this bushing thread up to American Briggs Standard, or is it some other thread spec?

American Briggs Standard is exactly what it's threaded to, so it'll match up with other fittings and pipe work built to that same spec. That's the standard you'll run into on most U.S. iron pipe systems, so compatibility shouldn't be a headache.

trying to step a 2-1/2 inch line down to 2 inch, is that what this hex bushing is for?

Meant for reducing between two threaded pipe sizes, this hex bushing has 2-1/2 inch threads on one end and 2 inch threads on the other, so you can transition from a larger threaded opening down to a smaller one.
