got a 1 inch female threaded port but my line is 1/2 inch, is this the right bushing to step it down?

Function-wise, yes. It is a hex bushing meant to reduce from a 1 inch pipe thread opening down to 1/2 inch, using American Briggs Standard pipe threads.
