What's the deal with the threads on this bushing, are they standard?

They're threaded to the American Briggs Standard for pipe threads, so they should be compatible with standard fittings.

Does this bushing use standard pipe threads, or is it something proprietary I'd need special tools for?

American Briggs Standard threading, which is the same as NPT pipe thread. Standard pipe dies and wrenches are all you need. Nothing out of the ordinary to worry about on that front.
