got a 1 inch iron line and need to turn it 90 degrees, is this the kind with one male end and one female end?

does this fitting need any thread sealant or tape when you're putting it together, or does it seal up on its own?

No sealant or tape is required for assembly. The threads are cut to American Briggs Standard, which gives you a precise, secure fit right out of the box. The chamfered openings on each end also help everything start cleanly without cross-threading, so it goes together faster than a lot of fittings people are used to working with.
