got a hydraulic setup where i need to fine-tune flow both ways. is this needle valve made for that kind of deal

For controlled flow in either direction, this inline needle valve is a good fit. It lets you adjust the flow while the system is under pressure, and you can lock the setting in place with the set screw so it does not drift.

Reckon this'll hold up okay in a hydraulic system running around 4500 PSI? Don't wanna get somethin' that's gonna blow on me.

This steel needle valve is rated for pressures up to 5000 PSI, so it should handle your system with a good safety margin.

does this valve work for adjusting flow in both directions, or is it just one-way? got a circuit that needs control going back and forth under pressure

Flow adjustment in both directions is supported, and changes can be made while the system is under pressure. That makes it practical for circuits where you need to dial things in on the fly without shutting down. The set screw lock also lets you hold a setting once you've got it where you want it, so it won't drift on you.
