got a hose run that's about 8 feet long and it keeps rubbing against the frame. would a 2.25 inch clamp like this one actually hold it in place without chafing the hose?

Long hose runs are exactly what these are built for. The vinyl coating on the inside of the clamp acts as a buffer between the steel and your hose, so you're not getting metal-on-hose contact that causes wear over time. Chafing is one of the main problems this style of clamp is meant to prevent, and the closed 2.25 inch ID keeps the hose seated securely rather than letting it shift and rub.

For long hose runs, the vinyl-coated steel build is meant to support the hose and help prevent damage from exposure and chafing, so you end up with a cleaner install.

This clamp is designed to fit hoses with a 2.25-inch outer diameter. It's a closed clamp, so you'll need to slide the hose in from the end.
