stainless steel on this one -- does that mean it'll hold up better in wet or chemical-heavy setups compared to standard steel couplings?

Corrosion resistance is where stainless really earns its keep on this coupling. Standard carbon steel couplings can rust out fast when they're exposed to moisture, chemical splash, or washdown environments. The stainless body on this one handles those conditions a lot better, and the available seal options stretch that compatibility further. Buna-N is the standard seal here, rated from -40°F up to 250°F, but EPR and Viton are also listed options if your fluid or environment calls for something more aggressive.

trying to swap out a socket on my hose line. is this the female half with 1-11-1/2 female npt threads?

The threaded end on this coupling is 1-11-1/2 female NPT (NPTF), and it is the female half (socket) in an HK Series industrial interchange Series B style. It is also a -16 coupling size.

You’re looking at a female quick disconnect socket in the HK Series with a -16 coupling size and a 1-11-1/2 female NPTF thread (End Size 1 is 1 inch). Both ends are female, with a push-to-connect style on the coupling side and NPTF on the threaded side.
