How tough is the brass on this thing? I need it to hold up outside.

Brass construction along with stainless steel springs gives it better corrosion resistance and makes it more compatible with different fluids, so it should hold up well for outdoor use.

What kind of seal comes standard on this coupling, and are there other options if I'm running something other than hydraulic oil?

Buna-N is the standard seal material, which handles most hydraulic fluid applications just fine. If your system runs something more aggressive, there are several alternatives available: PTFE, Neoprene, FKM, EPDM, and Kalrez. Each of those seal options also carries its own temperature range. Neoprene and EPDM both go down to -65°F, EPDM tops out at +300°F, and FKM handles up to +400°F if you're dealing with high heat. So depending on your fluid and your operating temps, there's likely a seal option that fits what you're working with.
