what seal material does this come with standard, and how hot can it run before i need to worry?

Buna-N is the default seal, and it holds up from -40°F all the way to 250°F. For most hydraulic tool and general industry work that range covers a lot of ground. If your setup runs hotter than that, FKM seals are rated up to 400°F and EPDM goes to 300°F. Both are available as alternatives for this coupling if your application pushes those limits.
