got a 1-1/8 shaft with a 1/4 keyway, is this coupling half the right fit or am i off a size

It matches a 1.125 inch bore and a 1/4 inch key, so it lines up with a 1-1/8 inch shaft that uses a 1/4 inch key.

Typically, these couplings are used to connect hydraulic pumps to electric motors. However, they can work in plenty of other applications where you need to join shafts. Just keep in mind the maximum angular offset of 1° and parallel offset of 0.015 inches.

These Hi-Q coupling halves are indeed typically used to link hydraulic pumps to electric motors. The horsepower rating is 7.2 for Buna-N and 11.9 for Urethane spiders when driving hydraulic pumps at 1800 RPM.
