What thread spec does this fitting use, and is it a female connection?

Right on both counts. The 1/2x20NF threading is what sets this one apart from standard fittings, and yes, it's a female configuration. That specific thread pattern is why Brakequip calls it a "special" fitting. If your system calls for 1/2x20NF on the female side, this is the one you want.
