what's a banjo fitting exactly, and why would I need one over a regular straight fitting?

Banjo fittings let hydraulic lines connect at a 90-degree angle without the line having to bend sharply away from the port. A straight fitting works fine when you've got room to run a line directly out, but in tight spaces where a hard bend would stress the hose or just plain won't fit, a banjo solves that problem clean.
