Will this fitting work on standard automotive brake lines, or is it for something else?

This banjo fitting is compatible with standard brake line configurations commonly found in automotive and light industrial hydraulic brake systems, so it should work for your automotive application.

Got a brake line job where the fitting's gotta come off at an angle in a tight spot, does the banjo style actually help with that, or is it more trouble than its worth?

Banjo fittings are genuinely well-suited for confined spaces. Fluid passes straight through the bolt axis, so instead of needing clearance for a traditional angled fitting to extend outward, the connection stays compact right at the junction point. For tight spots in brake line runs, that's usually a real advantage over other fitting styles.
