Does this banjo fitting need any kind of thread sealant when you put it in, or does it seal up on its own?

No sealant required on this one. The fitting is designed to make a secure connection without any additional thread sealant, so you can go ahead and install it straight out of the box. The roll pin is included to help lock everything in place and keep it from backing out once it's seated.
