Is this the stainless version of the HF43SS fitting, or is there a regular steel option I should be looking at instead?

Stainless steel is what you get with this one. The HF43SS is built specifically from stainless, so it carries better corrosion resistance than a standard steel fitting would. For a brake line application on a Harley where moisture and road grime are a regular factor, that tends to hold up a lot better over time.
