these fit most standard grease gun fittings or do I need something specific for 1/8 NPT?

Standard grease guns use a coupler that connects to the fitting head, so the thread type on the fitting itself is what determines how it installs into your equipment, not the gun. The 1/8 NPT thread on this one is a pipe thread that screws directly into a tapped port in your machinery. As long as your equipment has a 1/8 NPT port, you're good to go.
