does this boot fit a gauge with the connection coming out the bottom, or just side mount ones?

Bottom connection is exactly what this boot is made for. It fits 2-1/2 inch diameter gauges with bottom connections, so if your gauge has the port coming straight down, you're in the right spot. Side-entry or back-connect gauges would need a different boot.
