got a line running 3/8 tube on one end and 1/4 on the other, this the right fitting to make that transition straight through?

For a straight adapter connecting 3/8 O.D. tube on one side to 1/4 O.D. tube on the other, yes, that's exactly what this fitting does. The A1 side is spec'd for 3/8 tube with an 11/16-16 thread, and the A2 side handles 1/4 tube on a 9/16-18 thread. Both ends use A1-style fittings, so as long as your existing connections match those thread specs, this should drop right in.
