these cap on a -05 JIC fitting or does it only work on SAE?

Both, actually. The G-5 covers -05 JIC and -05 SAE flared fittings, so either one is fine. The thread is 1/2-20, and as long as your fitting matches that, you're good to go.

The 1/2-20 is the thread specification you want to match. On JIC fittings, the dash size and the actual thread dimensions are two different things, and this cap is rated for -05 JIC and -05 SAE fittings that carry a 1/2-20 thread. So if your fitting matches that thread, you're good to go.
