fitting's got a female ORS on one end and some kind of thread on the other -- what size is that threaded end exactly?

The male threaded end runs 0.5625 inches and uses UNEF, which is a fine-thread standard you'll find on a good number of industrial hydraulic components. The ORS side measures 0.8125 inches. Both ends are fixed, so as long as your application calls for that ORS-to-UNEF combination on a -8 hose dash size, you're looking at the right part.
