fitting's got a female SAE 37 swivel on one end -- does that mean I can reposition it some during install without having to wrench the whole line around?

Yeah, that swivel end is exactly what makes these easier to work with on tight or awkward runs. You can rotate it to get the angle right before you lock everything down, which saves a good bit of grief when you're working in a cramped space. The 1.25-inch hex on the other end means you're using standard tooling, nothing special required.
