what system is this fitting actually built for, A/C refrigeration or general hydraulics?

Built specifically for the E-Z Clip System used in A/C refrigeration applications. The female SAE 45 end type and -8 hose dash size are sized and configured for that system, so it's not a general-purpose hydraulic fitting.
