what's the deal with the plating on this fitting, trying to figure out if it'll hold up in a wet environment without rusting out on me

Carbon steel on its own would be a concern in wet or corrosive conditions, but the Dura-Kote plating on this fitting is specifically there to handle that. It gives the steel a protective barrier against corrosion, so exposure to moisture and the general grime of a working hydraulic system won't eat through it the way it would on an uncoated fitting. For wet environments, that plating makes a real difference in how long the fitting stays serviceable.
