Does this coupling let you connect it with just one hand, or do you need to hold both ends steady while you push it together?

One hand is all it takes. The automatic sleeve design lets you push to connect without needing to stabilize the other end manually. That makes it a lot easier when you're working in tight spots on a hydraulic system and can't get both hands in there comfortably.
