This female half coupling is designed for use with a 5/8 inch hose.

what seal material comes in the socket half on this thing? got a Buna-N compatibility requirement and need to make sure before I order

Buna-N is the standard seal material for the socket and female half on this coupling. The plug and male half uses FKM. So if your system spec calls for Buna-N on the female side, this one fits that requirement straight out of the box.

got a 5/8 hose already, is this the female half with the barb end or am i lookin at the wrong piece

It is the female half coupling with a 5/8 inch hose barb (FD14-4003-10-06). The end gender is female and the end type is barb, so it is meant to be clamped onto 5/8 inch hose.
