What size is that male end on this fitting? Looks like maybe 1/8 inch?

fitting's made from carbon steel, does it hold up decent in wet or corrosive environments, or is that gonna be a problem long-term?

Carbon steel on its own would be a concern in wet conditions, but this one comes with Dura-Kote plating specifically to handle corrosion resistance. It's built to last longer than a standard uncoated fitting in environments where moisture or mild chemical exposure is a factor. That plating is a big part of why Aeroquip put it in the POLYON lineup to begin with.

need a fitting with a 1/8 male pipe thread for a -4 hose. is that what this one is?
