i already got the nipple and clips, what exactly are these “cages” for in the e-z clip setup?

In the E-Z Clip assembly, the cage snaps into the groove on the nipple after the nipple is pushed into the hose. When it is seated right, the cage will rotate in that groove. The two clips then slide over the cage arms and into the channels on each arm, and you close those clips with the FT1357 clip closing pliers.

say I mess up a line can I just reuse these clips and the cage or are they a one time deal

E-Z Clip components are strictly single-use and cannot be reused. Once a connection is made, any adjustments or new hoses will require a fresh set of clips and a new cage.

i’ve got the E-Z Clip stuff for A/C work. are these cages the little pieces that snap on the nipple so the clips can grab?

In the E-Z Clip system, the cage is the part that snaps into the groove on the nipple after the nipple is pushed into the hose. Once the cage is seated, the clips slide over the cage arms and get closed with the FT1357 Clip Closing Pliers to lock the connection in place.

what tools do i actually need on hand before putting one of these together? trying to figure out if i gotta order anything extra before i get started

A few specific items are required before assembly. You will need a guillotine blade cutter (FT1356) to get a clean hose cut, refrigerant oil to lubricate the nipple, GH134 Multi-Refrigerant hose, the correctly sized clips, and a nipple assembly with rubber compound o-rings. The FT1357 Clip Closing Pliers are also needed to lock everything down securely at the end. Having all of that staged before you start makes the process go a lot smoother.
