running this on a refuse hauler that stays in continuous operation most of the shift, these coils built to handle that kind of duty or do they need to cycle down regular?

Continuous duty is built right into these coils, so sustained operation without regular cycling down is exactly what they're rated for. The DG4S4-01 60 Series was put together with mobile working equipment in mind, refuse haulers included, so long shifts aren't outside its design envelope. Just keep an eye on your operating temps and stay within that 70 to 120 degree F window for best performance.
