what kind of thread is on the swivel end of this fitting, and will it hook up to standard NPT connections?

The swivel end runs 1/2-14 NPSM, which is a straight female thread. NPSM is a straight mechanical thread, so it won't seal the same way a tapered NPT fitting does. Worth keeping that in mind when you're pairing it up, because a tapered male NPT going into a straight female NPSM swivel relies on the swivel seat for sealing, not thread taper. For low pressure fluid transfer and suction and discharge lines, that setup works fine as long as everything seats properly.

got a 1/2 inch ID hose, is this the right end to get me to a 1/2-14 swivel female pipe thread?

It matches a 0.50 inch hose ID on the shank side and a 1/2-14 NPSM female NPT swivel thread on the other end, in a straight configuration.
